AGES 5–8
Talking about online strangers
Just like we don't talk to strangers in the park, we also don't talk to people we don't know online. Can you show me who you've been chatting with?

AGES 9–12
Safe gaming & online friends
I love that you enjoy gaming. I also want to talk about AI chat apps like Character.AI or Snapchat My AI — UNICEF Malaysia warned this week that these apps can lead children into conversations that feel private and safe, but aren't. Can we look at your friend lists, gaming chats, and any AI apps on your phone together to make sure you're safe?

AGES 13–16
Social media & privacy
I'm not trying to spy on you — I just want to understand what platforms you're using and make sure you know what to do if something feels wrong.

AGES 14–17
Image sharing & sexting
This might feel awkward, but sextortion is rising sharply among teens — the IWF recorded nine reports per week from children in the UK alone, and the FBI says it increases even more during school holidays. In 2026, AI tools mean someone can create a fake explicit image from a normal photo, so it can happen even if you've never sent anything. If you ever receive a threat like this, come to me first. No judgement, ever, and paying never makes it stop.

Tip of the day
School holidays are now underway — the FBI specifically warned in June 2026 that predators increase contact attempts sharply during holidays when children spend more unsupervised time online. This week: check your child's friend lists on Discord, Roblox, and Instagram; review any AI companion apps (Replika, Character.AI, Snapchat My AI); and remind your teen that if they ever receive a threatening message or sextortion demand, they should come to you first — paying never makes it stop, and you will not be angry.
