Online enticement reports hit 518,720 in H1 2025 (+77%), with financial sextortion cases nearly doubling in the same period. 58% of grooming still goes unreported; 90% happens via direct message. 1 in 5 teens aged 13–20 has experienced sextortion, and 1 in 7 victims self-harmed as a result (Thorn, 2025). NCMEC logged 50,000+ financial sextortion reports in 2025 — 137 a day, nearly double 2024. The UK's Report Remove service logged a 23% rise in claims last year, 98% involving boys aged 14–17.

Lifetime victimization among US gamers has risen from about a third in 2016 to over half in 2025; 1 in 5 players say they've spent less on games due to harassment. AI tools can generate fake intimate images of children from a single ordinary photo. IWF logged a 26,362% year-over-year rise in such videos in 2025. xAI is now suing a South Carolina man accused of using Grok to generate 7,000+ deepfake abuse images of his stepdaughter, part of a class action alleging Grok produced 23,000+ apparent-child images in just 11 days. On July 16, San Francisco's city attorney ordered Apple and Google to remove 13 face-swap apps capable of producing sexual deepfakes.

A Common Sense Media Youth AI Safety Institute assessment found Google's AI Search poses an "unacceptable risk" to kids, missing crisis signs and giving inconsistent answers across 2,600+ test searches. 44% of teens have seen AI-generated sexual content, and nearly 1 in 5 say they've made such content or know someone who has.
